This year we are proud to say
that we will celebrate our 6th year anniversary. More than six years ago a
family was discouraged that there was very little discussion about the options
for a cure. Two parents of a child with SCD, one a physician and one a
registered nurse, thought they would try to promote a cure for sickle cell
through a web-site, www.curesicklecell.org. Once they arrived in Mississippi
they were encouraged by sickle cell families to take up the challenge to do more
to educate, advocate and raise awareness about sickle cell disease. Cure Sickle
Cell Foundation, Inc. held the very first sickle cell walk in Mississippi to
respond to the demands of the community. Since then we have held our
Walk/Run/Ride every September during sickle cell awareness month. We have raised
over $30,000.00 to support families affected by this disease. To date,
Mississippians continue to show their support. With the proceeds we continued
our mission of “Fighting Sickle Cell & Helping Families” through our education,
advocating and raising awareness. Every year we also donate to The Blair E.
Batson Children’s Hospital Sickle Cell Clinic.
