The Sickle Cell Awareness Walk’s
purpose is to celebrate
Sickle Cell Awareness Month
and to shed light
on the disparities that exist in philanthropic support and government funding
for sickle cell
disease.
Location:
Jackson State
University, Walter Payton Recreation
& Wellness Center, 34 Walter Payton Place, Jackson, MS, 39217.
Entry Fee:
Pre-registration
is $20.00 per person (t-shirt included).
For groups of 10 or more people, who desire to wear their own team
t-shirts, registration is $15.00 per person (t-shirt
not
included). The late registration fee (after Sept. 5) is $25.00. Please have registration post
marked no later than Sept. 5.
Course:
5K Walk/Run/Ride(non-competitive) will begin & end at the Walter Payton Recreation & Wellness Center.
Amenities: T-shirts are only
guaranteed for all pre-registered
individual walkers (before Sept. 5). Maggie Wade, WLBT News Anchor will be
hosting the event. Activities & Entertainment for all ages will be provided. A
balloon release to honor those who have passed away of sickle cell disease will
be held. Upon registering, please submit names, ages and date of passing of love
ones who have died of sickle cell disease by calling 601-853-3402 or email
contact@curesicklecell.org.
Benefits:
Proceeds will benefit Mississippi families that suffer from sickle cell disease. Previous
year contributions have been donated to the University of Mississippi Medical
Center, Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital.

Blood Drive
Make a Connection to your Community,to your Family, to your cause and donate blood.
MississippI Blood Services will be hosting a special blood drive in honor of Sickle Cell Awareness Month.
Donating blood could help prevents strokes and many other complications of sickle
cell disease. The blood drives will be held at Mississippi Blood Services, 1995 Lakeland Drive, 601-981-3232. There will also be a drive the day of the walk.
